Microsoft Research aims at solving Grand Challenges in Sciences. We are looking for good candidates that could conduct interdisciplinary research, focusing on challenging problems in life sciences, materials sciences, physics and chemistry.
We build fundamental technologies for the scientific research community. We are developing advanced computational and artificial-intelligence-based methods for scientific exploration. The researchers are expected to participate in the tool-development and the applications to solve important problems. AI technology is being developed and incorporated in computational modeling and dynamics simulation of real-world systems. We hope to exploit the capacity of AI technology for scientific research from two aspects: (1) discovery of underlying rules embedded within huge amount of data; (2) accelerating the numerical calculations in solving mathematical equations, such as integration or differential analysis.
We are eager to work with colleagues who are passionate about fundamental scientific research and can devote their attention to both technological innovations and scientific breakthroughs. We are especially interested in finding talents with the following background:
- AI technologies and their cross-disciplinary applications
- Scientific computing tools and infrastructures
- Density functional theory and quantum chemistry
- Partial differential equation and fluid dynamics
- Ab initio/classical molecular dynamics and multiscale modeling
- Drug discovery and healthcare
- Computational physics, biology, sustainability, and materials sciences
- Applied mathematics

Qualifications
Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in natural science disciplines, including but not limited to physics, chemistry, biology, and applied mathematics. We expect applicants with strong quantitative analysis experience and solid computational skills.
The applicants should be fluent in spoken and written English. Applicants should demonstrate their capability in doing solid research in their field as evidenced by high quality publications or a track record of innovation. Good implementation skills and mathematical background are highly preferred. Candidates must be able to collaborate effectively with other researchers.
We are particularly interested in the candidates who can work across disciplinary boundaries.
